Reiki is a form of energy healing which originated in Japan in the 1920's by Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk. He learned how to feel and direct the universal life energy that flows through each human being.
The term "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "rei', meaning Universal, and "ki", which means Vital Life Force. This is the energy that flows through all living things. It is known as Ki, Chi, Prana, and Zero Point Energy.
In 1914, Mikao Usui meditated and fasted on Mt. Kurama. It is here that Reiki was brought to him as a result of an injury. He brought this healing force to the people of his village and trained 20 Reiki Masters. One student, Chujiro Hayashi was encouraged by Usui to apply his medical knowledge, and this became the standardization of hand positions. Hayashi subsequently trained Hawayo Takata, who spread Reiki to the U.S.
Mikao Usui was the founder of Reiki and the teacher of Chujiro Hayashi. Hayashi then taught the first woman, and non-Japanese person, Hawayo Takata who brought Reiki to the United States. Takata taught John Harvey Gray who taught Kristin Webb. Kristin taught my teacher, Joseph Occhipinti.
Reiki is a non-invasive, complimentary healing modality. Reiki works with the body's energy system and brings organization to chaos and order to dis-ease. Allowing your mind, body, and soul to reside in a state of wellness.
Reiki works through balancing the body's ki. Adequate flow is needed for optimal health. But when there is an overabundance or a blockage of energy flow, our body responds in negative ways.
When our life force is aligned, we are Happy, Healthy, and Vibrant. When it is out of balance, we manifest symptoms in the area of the body associated with a particular chakra. These symptoms can be mental, spiritual, emotional, physical, or a combination of these.
Regular Reiki sessions help to balance and regulate the flow of energy in our body. Properly balanced energy can negate unwanted energy such as Sadness, Anxiety, Hopelessness, and Depression. Reiki can strengthen your body's energy by clearing blockages, helping with Mood, Focus, and Motivation.
Because of it’s gentle approach, Reiki is appropriate for all ages, from infants to the elderly. It can be used in conjunction with a doctors treatments, as well as other holistic remedies. It can also be performed in person or even at a distance, making it convenient for those who have trouble with mobility.
